Frequently Asked Questions

Not every business needs one, but most benefit from outside help at some point. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, every PCBU is responsible for managing workplace health and safety, whether that is done internally or with external support. A consultant is typically worth it when you do not have the in-house knowledge to build or maintain your system, when a client or prequalification scheme is asking for documentation you do not have, when an incident has occurred and you need independent support, or when you simply want someone to check that what you have in place actually works. If you are unsure, a gap analysis is the quickest way to find out where you stand.
It depends on the service. As a guide, our Workplace Site Audit starts from $450 + GST with a report delivered within 24 hours. Larger projects like a full health and safety management system, a gap analysis, or SiteWise prequalification are quoted as a fixed project fee after a scoping call, so you know the total cost before any work begins.
Yes. The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 applies to every PCBU regardless of size. A sole trader with one van has the same legal duty of care as a company with 200 staff, though what "reasonably practicable" looks like is different at each scale. For sole traders and very small businesses, our Sole Trader Health & Safety Pack covers everything you need. For businesses with staff, a full OHSMS is the standard approach.
A site audit is a broader compliance check of your physical workplace conditions and on-site documentation. A risk assessment focuses specifically on the hazards present, how likely each one is to cause harm, and whether your controls are adequate. Both are on-site services, but they answer different questions. If you are not sure which you need, tell us about your situation on a scoping call and we will recommend the right one.
Call us as soon as possible. The sooner an investigation starts, the better the evidence. We advise on your immediate obligations, including whether the incident is notifiable to WorkSafe under sections 56 to 58 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, and can be on site quickly for urgent situations.
